Myrtle Burl Desk
Size:
100″ long by 24″ deep by 30″ high
Materials:
Myrtle Burl and Maple
Description:
This large Art Deco style desk/dresser was designed to match the style of the clients existing Italian Art Deco furniture and is veneered in highly figured Myrtle Burl. The cabinet serves several functions in a single well-organized whole. It has four dresser drawers on the lower left side and two electronic locking jewelry drawers on the upper left side. There are also two additional hidden drawers behind the upper two drawers. There are three slide out trays for the clients electronic equipment behind the center door and a small writing desk with a single pencil drawer on the far right. The finish is Conversion Varnish over Polyester fill that has been polished to a high gloss. The black detailing and interior are Pigmented Conversion Varnish. The Myrtle veneer was dyed lightly to match the golden brown color of the other pieces and the interior is Maple and Maple veneer.
This piece was also part of the article I wrote for Fine Woodworking magazine on veneering curved shapes.
